After unveiling its list of 144 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections scheduled for November 17, Congress State President Kamal Nath emphasized the party’s commitment to gender inclusivity, highlighting the inclusion of 19 female candidates. “We are fully prepared in Madhya Pradesh. From the list we have released, 65 candidates are below the age of 50, and there are 19 female candidates. We have done what we said. They (BJP) have nothing left, they just can’t say that they are losing the election,” Kamal Nath confidently stated.
The first list released by Congress for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections showcases several influential personalities, including former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Jitu Patwari, Jaivardhan Singh, Vijayalakshmi Sadho, and Lakshman Singh. The state will conduct the vote count on December 3.
March 2021 witnessed a setback for the Kamal Nath-led government as 22 Congress MLAs resigned and aligned themselves with the BJP under the leadership of Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Aside from Madhya Pradesh, the Congress party has also declared candidates for 30 seats in Chhattisgarh and 55 in Telangana. In contrast, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already announced nominees for 136 out of 230 assembly constituencies in the state.
With the election set to take place in one phase, the state is gearing up to elect representatives from 230 Assembly constituencies. The vote counting is expected to take place on December 3.
