Mutton Masala for Rs 8,000! Luxury Meals for VIP Prisoners? Taloja Central Jail Faces Corruption Allegations

In an unusual turn of events, Taloja Central Jail in the Mumbai suburbs is facing allegations of corruption and favoritism following claims of food discrimination among inmates. A recent complaint has revealed accusations that VIP prisoners are receiving extravagant meals at high prices, while others are left with basic rations.

Allegations of Food Discrimination

Surendra Gadling, a prisoner involved in the 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence case, has lodged a formal complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Thane. Gadling’s complaint highlights claims that VIP inmates are being served luxurious meals such as chicken and mutton at inflated prices, suggesting that bribery and favoritism are at play.

Detailed Menu for VIP Inmates

The complaint provides a detailed menu purportedly available only to VIP prisoners, with the following alleged prices:

  • Fried Chicken: Rs 2,000
  • Hyderabadi Biryani: Rs 1,500
  • Schezwan Rice: Rs 500
  • Shrimp Biryani: Rs 2,000
  • Chicken Masala: Rs 1,000
  • Chicken Manchurian: Rs 1,500
  • Chilli Chicken: Rs 1,500
  • Mutton Masala: Rs 8,000
  • Mutton Curry: Rs 7,000
  • Vegetarian Manchurian: Rs 1,000
  • Veg Biryani: Rs 1,000
  • Egg Biryani: Rs 500
  • Special Veg Pakora: Rs 1,000

According to the allegations, these prices are applied exclusively to VIP inmates, creating a significant disparity with the food offered to the general prison population. This inequality has sparked tensions and accusations of corruption within the jail.

Officials Under Scrutiny

The complaint also implicates jail officer Sunil Patil and other officials in this preferential treatment scheme, which reportedly occurred between 5:30 am and 6:30 am. The allegations have prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the jail’s practices.

Ongoing Investigation

The controversy surrounding Taloja Central Jail has led to widespread concern and demands for a review of its operations. The case underscores the need for transparency and fairness within the prison system, as the public awaits further developments in the investigation.
