Tremors Felt in Bangkok After 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake in Myanmar

The 7.2 magnitude earthquake sent tremors to Bangkok, causing people to rush out of their homes in panic. Some videos showed individuals shaking while eating. Local witnesses in Bangkok reported that people ran into the streets, and water splashed out of swimming pools due to the shaking.

Reason Behind The Earthquake- Myanmar’s Vulnerability to Earthquakes Due to Plate Collision

Myanmar is at high risk for earthquakes because of the collision between the Eurasian and Indo-Australian plates. The International Seismological Centre reports that, from 1990 to 2019, about 140 earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 or higher occurred every year in Myanmar and nearby areas. This shows that Myanmar is prone to both moderate and large earthquakes, as well as the possibility of tsunamis along its long coastline.
