The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the establishment of the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, which will be the first medical college in the northeastern state since its independence 60 years ago in 1963.
P. Paiwang Konyak, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, announced the NMC’s decision to establish the medical college in Kohima, stating that the institute’s academic session will begin in 2023-24.
The medical college will have 100 seats for MBBS students, and this landmark achievement is expected to significantly benefit the state’s healthcare sector by expanding medical education opportunities and improving healthcare services.
