Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 82.53 kg of first-grade cocaine worth around ₹900 crore from Janakpuri and Nangloi in Delhi in a big haul on Thursday. The agency arrested two people in this connection with the huge haul dealing a blow to its all-out fight against drug trafficking. Massive Cocaine Seizure in Delhi
The operation, carried out on Thursday, was based on months of investigation into previous seizures by the NCB in March and August this year. According to the agency, the probe began with a suspicious parcel that was intercepted at a courier shop in Delhi. The NCB traced the supply chain that took it finally to Janakpuri and Nangloi, where the cocaine was concealed.
Deputy Director General of NCB, Neeraj Kumar Gupta said, “In this case, the primary recovery, from a courier shop in Delhi was in the form of a parcel that was meant to go to Australia. NCB traced back the supply, which was concealed at Janakpuri and Nangloi, Delhi.”
According to Gupta, the operation uncovered the international nature of the drug syndicate. It would turn out that a group of individuals abroad is running the operation. Among the cocaine seized, some were earmarked for export into Australia.
“The individuals involved in this case are essentially ‘hawala operators’ who use pseudonyms for daily conversations regarding drug dealings, thus making them anonymous to each other,” Gupta said. Two individuals from Delhi and Sonipat have been arrested in connection with the drug bust.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the NCB operation, saying the government is serious about its efforts in combating activities related to drug trafficking. This back-to-back major breakthroughs against illegal drugs in one single day mark the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to develop a drug-free Bharat,\” said Shah. Today, NCB seized 82.53kg of high-grade cocaine in New Delhi. The massive consignment worth approximately ₹900 crores was tracked down through a bottom-to-top approach after a quantity of drugs was seized from a courier centre in Delhi. Our drive against drug rackets will continue without abatement. Kudos to the NCB in this massive success.
This is the latest in the increasing interceptions of cocaine in Delhi. Last month of October, a joint operation by several agencies against an international drug syndicate seized around 1,300 kilograms of cocaine in three raids in Delhi and Gujarat.
