National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated extensive raids on the premises linked to the prohibited group Popular Front of India (PFI) across various states including Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
According to official sources, the raids have been in progress in multiple locations across Maharashtra since the early hours of Wednesday.
A team of NIA officials has arrived at the residence of Abdul Wahid Sheikh in Mumbai’s Vikhroli area. Sheikh had previously been acquitted in the 2006 Mumbai train blast case.
The NIA is concurrently executing searches in numerous areas in Madurai pertaining to the PFI case.
Additionally, in collaboration with local law enforcement, the NIA has commenced a search operation in the Ballimaran locality of Old Delhi, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hauz Qazi police station. The NIA personnel were deployed in the area early Wednesday morning.
Earlier in September, the Enforcement Directorate had conducted searches at the residences of former PFI workers in four districts of Kerala, namely Thrissur, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Wayanad.
In August, the NIA conducted searches at the residences of several PFI operatives in Malappuram. The operations were carried out at the homes of Thayyil Hamza in Vengara, Kalathiparambil Yahuti in Tirur, Haneefa in Tanur, and Rangattur Padikkaparambil Jaffer, all of whom were associated with the outlawed PFI.
These searches follow the NIA’s attachment of the Green Valley Academy in Manjeri in early August, which is one of the largest and oldest training centers affiliated with the PFI.
