Nikki, Sahil were married, says Delhi Police; constable among 5 arrested

The accused in the Nikki Yadav murder case, Sahil Gehlot, and the deceased girl were married, not just live-in partners, according to Delhi Police on Saturday.

After questioning Sahil, suspected of strangling Nikki, 25, with a phone’s data cord and stuffing her body in the refrigerator of his family-owned dhaba in Mitraon village in South West Delhi, officials from the Crime Branch revealed that the couple married three years ago in an Arya Samaj Temple.

“During police interrogation, Sahil disclosed that Nikki had been asking him not to marry another girl because both had already solemnised their marriage in 2020 and were actually husband and wife and not live-in partners,” Special CP Ravinder Yadav said.

He also told police that Nikki was repeatedly objecting to his impending marriage, fixed by his family on February 10.

Fed up with her repeated objections, Sahil planned to kill Nikki and executed the murder along with his accomplices- family members and acquaintances, on February 10 on the day of his second marriage,” Special CP Ravinder Yadav said.

Delhi Police had told ANI that the Crime Branch has detained five persons, including Sahil’s father in connection with the case on allegations of supporting his son in the “plot”. Crime Branch apprehended Sahil’s father, Ashish, Naveen, Amar, and Lokesh.

Later, it was revealed that Naveen, a relative of the principal accused, is a Delhi Police Constable who assisted Sahil in devising the scheme.

The five people were charged under Indian Penal Code sections 120 B (Criminal Conspiracy), 201 (Causing Disappearance of Evidence of Offence), 202 (knowing or having reason to believe that an offence has been committed), and 212 (harbouring or concealing offender) (IPC).

Nikki Yadav’s final rites were performed in her native Haryana hamlet of Jhajjar on Wednesday, after she was allegedly strangled by her boyfriend with a charging wire.

According to authorities, Nikki was strangled to death by Sahil after learning of his imminent marriage to another woman.

Following his arrest on Tuesday, accused Sahil Gehlot was brought before a Delhi court and placed on five-day police remand. According to DCP Crime Branch Satish Kumar, the accused is being held in custody for five days while an investigation is underway to determine the path taken that night.
