Following a series of violent incidents that shook Haryana’s Nuh district, the state government has taken decisive action by transferring the Superintendent of Police, Varun Singla, from his position. The development comes in the wake of clashes between two groups in the district that resulted in six confirmed deaths and left numerous individuals injured, including police personnel.
In a significant administrative reshuffle, Varun Singla, who held the crucial role of Nuh SP, has been reassigned to Bhiwani. The Home Department, in an order issued late on Thursday night, announced that IPS Narender Bijarniya would assume the mantle of full-time SP for the Nuh district. Notably, Bijarniya has previously held this position, having served as the SP of Nuh before.
The disturbances in the region led to the appointment of Bijarniya as an additional charge to manage the situation. The confrontations erupted when a religious procession was attacked in Nuh, causing chaos and leading to the tragic deaths of two home guards, along with numerous injuries, including around 20 policemen.
As the gravity of the situation in Haryana’s Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal districts, and three sub-divisions of Gurugram remains palpable, the state government has decided to prolong the suspension of mobile internet services in these districts until August 5.
Providing insights into the aftermath of the violence, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij disclosed that law enforcement has sprung into action, registering a total of 83 First Information Reports (FIRs) and apprehending 159 individuals in connection with the disturbances that affected Nuh and Gurugram districts.
In the midst of these developments, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda emerged with a demand for a comprehensive investigation into what he perceived as a “failure” of the government to preempt the violence. In a press statement, Hooda articulated, “We insist on a thorough judicial inquiry led by a high court judge to ascertain the reasons behind the government’s inability to avert the riots in Nuh. This initiative will undoubtedly unearth the truth surrounding the incident.”
As the region grapples with the aftermath of the violent clashes, the swift administrative changes and investigations seek to address the concerns raised by the unsettling events that have unfolded in Haryana’s Nuh district.
