Odisha Train Tragedy: CM Patnaik announces ₹5L compensation for deceased’s kin, ₹1L to injured

Odisha Train Tragedy: After the tragic collision of three trains in Balasore, Odisha, over 280 people were killed while thousands were injured. Over this, on Sunday, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announced a compensation of ₹5 lakhs to each of the deceased kin and ₹1 lakh to those who sustained serious injuries from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The Office of the Chief Minister (CMO) Odisha said, “The next of kin of the deceased will get the assistance of ₹5 lakh and those who sustained serious injuries will get ₹1 lakh as assistance.”

The Chief Minister has also expressed grief and offered condolences to people who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident. He has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Currently, victims are undergoing treatment in various private and government hospitals between Balasore and Bhubaneswar.

On Saturday, CM Patnaik visited the accident site in Balasore and took stock of the situation. Meanwhile, the rescue work has been concluded and restoration work has taken over. The preliminary report suggests that the 3-way accident involves the Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a goods train. They were on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in the Balasore district. As per reports, at least 17 coaches of two passenger trains were derailed leaving the horrific Odisha train tragedy behind on Friday evening.
