Old Rajender Nagar Incident: Delhi Chief Secretary Submits Enquiry Report, Claims It Completely Blocked The Drainage System

The Delhi Chief Secretary has submitted an enquiry report to Minister Atishi regarding the flooding incident at Rau’s IAS Coaching Institute in Old Rajender Nagar.

The report clearly highlights lapses in safety measures and drainage management by the institute, which led to the tragic death of students.

The report said, “This coaching institute has completely blocked the drainage system and also has not taken additional safeguards to meet out such type of eventualities. The parking access to the institute is directly exposed to the road and in case of heavy rain, water instead of going into the stormwater drain enters directly into this parking area.”

“There was no vigil on the part of security staff as a result water uninterruptedly crosses the parking area and entered into the basement and ultimately taking the precious life of three bright children. However, the Assistant Engineer(M-1)/KBZ responsible for maintenance of the drains system of area has been suspended with immediate effect and services of Junior Engineer (M-1)/KBZ has been terminated forthwith.”

Atishi’s response:

On 27th July at 11:20pm, I had given directions to the Chief Secretary to initiate a Magisterial Enquiry into the tragic incident that led to the loss of 3 lives in Rajinder Nagar, and submit a report within 24 hours.
