Opposition Leaders Stage Protest at Vidhan Bhavan Against Maharashtra Government on Farmers’ Issues

Maharashtra’s opposition leaders demonstrated against the government on Vidhan Bhavan’s steps, citing concerns about farmers’ lack of compensation for their produce. They also held signs criticizing the state administration. The opposition members were highlighting the problems faced by farmers by holding carrots and cotton in their hands. The opposition leaders claimed that no action had been taken for the welfare of farmers in the government’s Tuesday budget proposal. They insisted that cotton be paid a fair price.

The leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction and spokesperson, Anand Dubey, declared on Tuesday that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s budget “is not for common people.” During his speech, Ajit Pawar declared that the state government would give households participating in the rooftop solar initiative of the central government a grant of Rs 78,000. Rooftop solar panels may be purchased with a grant of up to Rs 78,000 per household under the Center’s Suryagraha scheme. Furthermore, farmers will receive solar pumps at subsidized prices in order to encourage the use of renewable and alternative energy sources.” Ajit Pawar stated that Maharashtra plans to provide tap water to approximately 1.47 crore households, of which over 1.22 crore connections have already been made, in reference to the Jal Jeevan Mission.
