On the last day of Parliament’s Budget session in the national capital, opposition Lawmakers staged a ‘Tiranga March’ from Parliament to Vijay Chowk. Congress leader KC Venugopal who participated in the march said, “The government itself is not letting the Parliament run. Why do they not want to discuss the Adani scam?”
Since the start of the Budget Session, both houses of Parliament have been adjourned several times. The march began after the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die in response to a protest by opposition parties requesting a Joint Parliamentary Investigation into the Adani stocks, among other things. The BJP has demanded that Rahul Gandhi apologise for his remarks in London.
The Tiranga March started at Parliament and will conclude at Vijay Chowk. Following the march, the parties plan to hold a press conference at the Constitution Club. Meanwhile, three major parties, including the Congress, are reportedly skipping the Lok Sabha Speaker’s ‘Evening Tea’ meeting today.
The decision for the ‘tricolour march’ was made at a meeting on Wednesday morning in the Parliament building, which was attended by the leaders of like-minded opposition parties and chaired by Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. The meeting was attended by leaders from the DMK, Trinamool Congress, AAP, Samajwadi Party, RJD, CPI(M), CPI, and Muslim League.
“Fighting in a democratic way is our duty. If the government is not listening, it is stubborn. If you want democracy to be alive then listening to the opposition is important,” Kharge said today on the last day of ongoing Budget session of Parliament.
Notwithstanding Rahul Gandhi’s exclusion from parliament, Kharge stated that an apology from him was still sought. “It seems they are trying to weaken the opposition,” Kharge remarked.
Meanwhile, the BJP, which is commemorating its Foundation Day today, had a parliamentary party meeting this morning in Parliament. Meanwhile, thirteen political parties, including the Congress, have chosen to boycott the Lok Sabha Speaker’s ‘Evening Tea’ meeting on Thursday, the final day of Parliament’s Budget session.
Opposition parties such as the Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and Trinamool Congress would boycott the tea meeting. The Indian National Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Janata Dal (United), Trinamool Congress Party (TMC), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena, Communist Party of India, and Aam Admi Party were among the parties present.
Following a protest by Opposition MPs over numerous concerns, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned until 2 p.m. on Thursday, while the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on the last day of the Parliament’s Budget Session.
Today is the last day of the Budget Session, which has been a total shambles, with the Opposition demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Hindenburg report on the Adani issue and the BJP demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on Savarkar and insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is one of the tallest OBC leaders.
