Ahead of the 74th Republic Day, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday announced the recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards, the highest civilian award in India. The President has approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards including that of Mulayam Singh Yadav, who will be receiving the award posthumously. A compendium of 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri Awards are set to be awarded.
The Padma Awards are India’s highest civilian honor after the Bharat Ratna, seeking to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or discipline such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service and more.
