PM Modi to visit Papua New Guinea, Japan and Australia, will attend G7 meet and Quad Summit

During the trip, the Prime Minister will also visit Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, making him the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the Oceania country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be heading on a three-nation trip to Japan and Australia as part of his agenda to attend the G7 Summit and Quad Leaders’ Summit.

From May 19 to May 21, the Prime Minister will go to Hiroshima for the G-7 Summit hosted by Japan. PM Modi is going to visit Japan on the invitation extended by Japanese Prime Miniter Fumio Kishida.

The Prime Minister will be addressing the G-7 sessions with partner countries on subjects such as peace, stability and prosperity of a sustainable planet; food, fertilizer and energy security; health; gender equality; climate change and environment; resilient infrastructure; and development cooperation during the entirety of the Summit. PM Modi will also attend bilateral meetings with some of the state heads on the Sidelines of the summit.

PM Modi to become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Papua New Guinea

During the trip, the Prime Minister will also visit Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, making him the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the Oceania country. There, along with James Marape, the prime minister of Papua New Guinea, he will co-host the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC III Summit) on May 22.

Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Samoa, Vanuatu, Niue, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Marshall Islands, the Cook Islands, Palau, Nauru, and the Solomon Islands are among the 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) that are a part of FIPIC, which was established in 2014.

An official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs stated that Prime Minister Modi will meet with both Prime Minister James Marape and Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae during his visit to Papua New Guinea and have bilateral engagements with them.

PM to attend Quad Summit from May 22 to 24

Along with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and US President Joe Biden, PM Modi will attend the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Sydney from May 22 to 24.

The official press release said that the Summit offers the Leaders a chance to discuss current events in the Indo-Pacific and advance their vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

On May 24, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese will meet separately. The Prime Minister is also going to speak to the Indian diaspora at a community gathering in Sydney on May 23 in addition to meeting with Australian CEOs and business leaders.
