Passenger Arrested Over False Spice Jet ‘Hijacked’ Tweet

A 29-year-old man was arrested for allegedly falsely tweeting that a flight departing from Dubai to Jaipur had been hijacked on Wednesday, the Police shared on Thursday. 

Disgruntled by the delay in his flight, accused Moti Singh Rathore took to Twitter to unleash his frustration by posting a message stating that a Spice Jet flight departing from Dubai to India had been hijacked.

‘Spice Jet Flight SG 58 Dubai to Jaiour high jacked’, the agitated passenger had tweeted tagging Civil Avaiations Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, thereby causing a state of disorder on social media. He posted a purported video of some passengers bickering with the Spice Jet Airlines crew, possibly due to the delay, to showcase an atmosphere of mayhem. 

Moti Singh Rathore, a resident of Nagaur in Rajasthan, arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at 09.45am after the Dubai to Jaipur Spice Jet flight SG 58 was diverted due to incelent weather and cleared to depart at 1.40pm. Subsequently, Rathore had posted this tweet around 1.20pm. 

However, he later took to Twitter to apologise for posting the tweets. He said that his English was ‘weak’ and that he was frustrated by the delay. However, he was offlaoded from the flight and the flight took off after all the checks. 

‘The passenger was handed over to local police for further legal action’, the DCP shared. 

Rathore is now booked under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 505(1)(b) (Statements conducing to public mischief) and 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication).
