On Saturday, a tragic accident occurred in Jharkhand’s Giridih, as a bus carrying passengers plunged into the Barkar River, resulting in the loss of at least three lives and leaving over 15 others injured, according to officials. Naman Priyesh, the deputy commissioner of Giridih, confirmed the casualties.
Immediately after receiving news of the incident, a rescue operation was launched at the scene, involving officials from the district administration and local residents. A video clip of the accident showed the overturned bus in the river, with locals using their mobile torches to aid in the ongoing rescue efforts.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren had earlier informed through a social media post that the ill-fated bus was en route from Ranchi to Giridih when the accident happened.
Banna Gupta, the state Health and Disaster Management Minister, stated that the authorities acted swiftly to initiate the rescue operation. He assured that all necessary medical facilities would be provided to the injured passengers.
Hemant Soren also tweeted about the tragic incident, expressing his sadness and mentioning the ongoing efforts by the district administration, as well as the support from JMM leaders and workers in the rescue endeavour.
