The Press Bureau of India (PIB) has taken a stance against what it perceives as misleading assertions put forth by a US-based media company in an article with propaganda undertones. This dispute arises just days before the significant G20 Summit scheduled for September 9-10 in New Delhi.
The PIB, operating as a key agency of the Government of India under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has conducted a comprehensive fact-check on CNN’s article titled “India, advocate for the global poor, clears slums as G20 draw near,” which was published on September 5 (local time). The PIB’s evaluation of the article led it to conclude that the information presented was misleading.
Specifically, the PIB’s fact-check highlighted what it considered a “misleading claim” by the US media outlet regarding the removal of encroachments in Delhi leading up to the G20 Summit.
The PIB clarified that the removal of these encroachments is in line with directives issued by the Supreme Court of India and is not directly linked to the G20 Summit.
Contradicting CNN’s assertions, the PIB’s fact-check asserted, “Demolition of structures at Tughlaqabad is unrelated to G20 & not near the venue.”
The PIB’s endeavor to provide clarity on this matter reflects India’s commitment to ensuring the accuracy of reporting and addressing any misconceptions or misrepresentations related to the G20 Summit.
This summit is anticipated to convene leaders from across the globe for discussions on critical global issues and the promotion of international cooperation.
