India can emerge as key player in global technical textiles market: Piyush Goyal

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal attended a Chintan Shivir, a technical textiles brainstorming session. “India can emerge as a key player in the global technical textiles market,” Goyal said. Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh also attended the Chintan Shivir.

The session was jointly organised with Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) and Indian Technical Textiles Association (ITTA) encompassing participation of more than 50 major industries in the application areas of home textiles and cloth textiles such as Industrial Sewing threads, Adhesive Tapes, Labels and Batches, Furniture and Coated Fabrics, Mosquito Nets, Fibrefill, Filter Fabrics, Household wipes, Stuffed Toys, among others.

The Conference brought together industry leaders, manufacturers, researchers, line Ministries, and user Departments from the Central and State governments on a single platform to exchange ideas and plan for the sector’s future growth and development.

Goyal presided over the second meeting of the Textile Advisory Group on Man-made Fibres, which included stakeholders from the MMF value chain.

According to the Ministry of Textiles, India is bracing itself to meet the growing internal and global demand for sustainable and circular products, and many Indian innovators are experimenting with technologies and techniques to make the various processes of the textile value chain more resource-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Gujarat and Tamil Nadu textile clusters are pioneers on the path to sustainability.

They are currently working hard to make manufacturing processes more resource efficient through processes such as zero liquid discharge, fiber-to-fibre recycling, switching to alternative organic dyes/chemicals, and switching to renewable energy sources. Along with this, efforts are being made to improve worker well-being through better working conditions and benefits, thereby addressing all aspects of ESG principles.

The Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is being held in Gujarat from April 17-30 as part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ Initiative to celebrate the cultural links between Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

The event is being held in four different locations to celebrate the unity and highlight the oneness of the two regions with a shared history: Somnath, Dwarka, Rajkot, and the Statue of Unity at Kevadia.
