Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese will arrive in Gujarat on Wednesday and will attend the first day of the fourth Test match between the two countries on March 9 at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, officials said.
While PM Modi will arrive late in the evening, Albanese will arrive in the evening at Ahmedabad airport and head straight to the Sabarmati Ashram in the city to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi, who lived at the Ashram during India’s freedom struggle.
According to the official schedule, Albanese will attend a cultural event hosted by the Gujarat government at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar on the occasion of the Holi festival.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Governor Acharya Devvrat, and other dignitaries will also be present at Raj Bhavan to greet the Australian Prime Minister. On Wednesday night, Albanese is also scheduled to attend an event at a five-star hotel hosted by an Australian university.
Both prime ministers will arrive at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, on Thursday morning to watch the first day of the fourth Test between Australia and India. They’d leave after a few hours of watching the game.
According to Neeraj Badgujar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector 1, Ahmedabad police have deployed over 3,000 personnel at the stadium and surrounding areas in anticipation of a large crowd watching the cricket match.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the prime minister of Australia will watch the Test match at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 9. Police have already completed all the security-related arrangements. We have deployed nearly 200 police officers and 3,000 policemen to secure the stadium and other spots,” Badgujar told reporters on Tuesday.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police N N Chaudhary, nearly 1,500 buses will transport spectators to the stadium, and special parking arrangements have been made to accommodate these buses and other vehicles.
