PM Modi and Mamata Set to Rally in Bengal; PM Launches Bihar Campaign from Jamui

Cooch Behar, West Bengal, is poised for election fervour as both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are scheduled to hold rallies in the constituency.

This marks PM Modi’s first rally in Bengal and Bihar since the Election Commission of India announced the poll schedule on March 16.

While Mamata Banerjee is slated to address a rally in Cooch Behar around noon, PM Modi’s rally is scheduled for 3 pm.

In a recent interaction with BJP workers from West Bengal via the NaMo App, PM Modi criticized the TMC-led state government, highlighting violence as a major concern during elections. He stressed the importance of encouraging fearless voting amidst heightened security measures by the Election Commission.

The contest in Cooch Behar features sitting MP and BJP leader Nisith Pramanik, while the TMC has fielded Jagadish Barma Basunia from the Rajbanshi community and the sitting MLA of Sitai.

Cooch Behar, alongside Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, will vote on April 19, marking the first phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal.

With 42 Parliamentary Constituencies in West Bengal, the 2019 elections saw the TMC securing 22 seats, the BJP winning 18, and the Congress managing only two seats.

Meanwhile, in Bihar, PM Modi’s election campaign kickstarts from Jamui, a development hailed by Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan as a proud moment. Jamui, Paswan’s ‘Karmabhoomi,’ sees PM Modi’s rally on April 4.

Paswan, the incumbent MP from Jamui, has nominated Arun Bharti for the seat this time. In the 2019 elections, the NDA coalition dominated Bihar, winning 39 out of 40 seats, with the BJP, JD(U), and LJP securing a significant victory.

Bihar’s polling will unfold across seven phases, beginning on April 19 and culminating on June 1. The Lok Sabha elections, spanning 543 seats, commence on April 19, with nearly 97 crore eligible voters participating.
