PM Modi arrives at Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, where he will meet with frontline conservation employees and Self Help Organizations.

He will also visit the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and meet with the elephant camp’s mahouts and kavadis. He will also meet with field directors from tiger reserves that received the best scores in the recently completed 5th cycle of the Management Effectiveness Assessment exercise. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Modi will establish the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA).

In July 2019, Prime Minister Modi called for a Global Leaders Coalition to eliminate demand and effectively combat poaching and illegal wildlife trading in Asia. According to the PMO statement, the IBCA would focus on the protection and conservation of the world’s seven principal big cats: the Tiger, Lion, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar, and Cheetah.

PM Modi will also kick off a commemoration of Project Tiger’s 50th anniversary. During the programme, he will announce the papers ‘Amrit Kaal Ka Vision for Tiger Conservation,’ a summary report of the 5th cycle of Management Effective Assessment of Tiger Reserves, declare tiger numbers, and release the All India Tiger Estimate Summary Report (5th cycle).

Prime Minister Modi will also unveil a commemorative coin marking the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger.
