Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed that his trip to Greece would significantly boost the bond between India and Greece, especially regarding people-to-people connections. He referred to this visit as particularly special and highlighted the impactful interaction he had with the vibrant Indian community in Greece. He extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Greek Government, and the Greek people.
The Prime Minister’s departure from Athens marked the conclusion of his visit to Greece after a four-day official tour that included stops in South Africa and Greece.
Commencing on August 21, Prime Minister Modi embarked on a formal tour of South Africa and Greece. In South Africa, he participated in the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24, having been invited by President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa.
Throughout his time in Greece, Prime Minister Modi engaged in meetings with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President Katerina N Sakellaropoulou. During his visit, he was honored with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honour in Athens by President Sakellaropoulou, an accolade that further distinguished his achievements.
The President of Greece, Katerina N Sakellaropoulou, bestowed the Grand Cross upon Prime Minister Modi during his official day-long visit. Furthermore, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis acknowledged the success of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission and welcomed the invitation to visit India. A joint statement issued during the visit highlighted the decision of both nations to elevate their bilateral relations to a “strategic partnership.” This breakthrough entailed a commitment to enhance collaboration in political, security, and economic domains.
An important aspect of the visit was Prime Minister Modi’s address to business delegations from India and Greece during a business lunch in Athens. He encouraged them to capitalize on the positive momentum in bilateral relations, emphasizing that India was receptive to foreign investment and opening up opportunities in the defense sector.
He also stressed the potential for collaborative development and production, citing ongoing digitization efforts and improvements in the ease of doing business. The Prime Minister reiterated his principles of Reform, Perform, and Transform, underscoring how India’s demographic advantage and ambitious youth were invigorating the nation’s economy.
Before concluding his visit to Greece, Prime Minister Modi engaged with members of the Indian diaspora at a community event held at the Athens Conservatoire. This interaction marked a significant moment of connection with the Indian community in Greece.
