“I am proud that our ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) performed exceptionally well at the Asian Games. It highlights the capabilities of India’s daughters,” PM Modi remarked during the event held at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, underscoring the national celebration prompted by the athletes’ achievements.
Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed the athletes on behalf of India’s 140 crore (1.4 billion) citizens, acknowledging that their dedication and accomplishments had generated a jubilant atmosphere throughout the country. He expressed that despite India’s abundant talent, athletes had faced numerous obstacles in the past that hindered them from converting their potential into medals.

The Indian contingent secured a remarkable total of 107 medals, consisting of 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals. Notably, disciplines such as shooting, athletics, and archery made substantial contributions to this achievement. Furthermore, the cricket and kabaddi teams both clinched two gold medals each, and the men’s hockey team secured gold, earning a spot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Squash emerged as another standout sport, contributing five medals, including two golds. Additionally, India’s success extended to badminton, where the nation won three medals, including a historic gold in the men’s doubles event.
