Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated new buildings of several premier academic institutions in Bihar, including IIT Patna and the permanent campus of IIM Bodh Gaya. The inauguration ceremony was attended virtually by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and several other ministers in the Bihar Assembly.
The inauguration included 24 new academic and residential buildings of IIT Patna, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹ 466 crore. These facilities encompass the central library, auditorium, central lecture hall, academic buildings, students’ activity centre, hostels, and residential quarters for teachers and employees. The campus of IIT Patna was originally inaugurated by the PM on July 25, 2015.
In addition to IIT Patna, the PM also inaugurated the newly constructed permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya. Established in 2015, the institute had been functioning from a temporary campus at Bodh Gaya until now. The new full-fledged campus spans an area of over 60,000 square metres and was developed at an estimated cost exceeding ₹ 400 crore.
PM Modi’s inauguration spree extends beyond Bihar, as he is set to boost the education sector nationally by inaugurating campuses for three Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) located in Jammu, Bodh Gaya, and Visakhapatnam. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for several projects valued at over Rs 13,000 crore.
Among these projects are the permanent campuses of IIT Bhilai, IIT Tirupati, IIT Jammu, and IIITDM Kancheepuram. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS), a leading institute for advanced technology skill training located in Kanpur. Furthermore, two campuses of the Central Sanskrit University will be inaugurated, one in Devprayag, Uttarakhand, and the other in Agartala, Tripura.
In a significant step towards upgrading and developing education and skilling infrastructure nationwide, PM Modi will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone of several projects worth about Rs 13,375 crore, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Speaking at the virtual inauguration event, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, expressed their gratitude for the development initiatives. The newly constructed buildings of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhagalpur were also inaugurated during the ceremony.
