According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a surprise visit to the New Parliament Building on Thursday.
He allegedly spent more than an hour inspecting different works. He witnessed the construction of facilities at both Houses of Parliament and interacted with the construction workers. The Prime Minister revealed the National Emblem cast on the roof of the New Parliament Building in July of last year. He’d also engaged with employees.
The National Emblem is composed of bronze, weighs 9,500 kg, and stands 6.5 metres tall. It was cast at the summit of the New Parliament Building’s central foyer.
To hold the Emblem, a steel supporting structure weighing approximately 6,500 kg was built.
In December 2020, the Prime Minister placed the foundation stone for the New Parliament Building. The new structure is an integral component of the ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’ vision.
The Central Vista project aims to strengthen governance infrastructure by constructing new facilities for India’s Parliament as well as an efficient and sustainable Central Secretariat to house all of the Government of India’s departments.
The Central Vista Development and Redevelopment Master Plan calls for the construction of a new Parliament structure, as well as the redevelopment of Central Vista Avenue and the creation of Common Central Secretariat Buildings.
The New Parliament Building will make extensive use of wooden structures for internal and exterior decor, with a focus on traditional motifs and components. It will also feature handknotted rugs from the Uttar Pradesh town of Bhadohi.
