Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the efforts of all those involved in the conservation and protection of lions on Saturday.
On the occasion of World Lion Day, celebrated on August 10, PM Modi took to his X handle to share several stunning images of the big cats. He highlighted that in February this year, the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance. This initiative aims to unite all the nations where big cats reside, build a holistic approach to sustainable development, and support community efforts. The endeavor has received a positive global response, he noted.
PM Modi also extended an invitation to wildlife enthusiasts to visit Gir National Park to witness the conservation efforts for lions and experience the hospitality of the people of Gujarat.

In a tweet thread on X, PM Modi said, “On World Lion Day, I commend all those working on lion conservation and reaffirm our commitment to protecting these majestic big cats. India, as we know, is home to a large lion population in Gir, Gujarat. Over the years, their numbers have significantly increased, which is great news.”
He continued, “In February this year, the Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the International Big Cat Alliance, which aims to unite all nations where big cats reside. It seeks to build a holistic approach to enhance sustainable development and support community efforts. This initiative is receiving an encouraging response globally.”
PM Modi concluded, “I also invite all wildlife lovers to visit Gir to discover the majestic Asiatic lion. It will provide an opportunity to witness the efforts to protect the lion and experience the hospitality of the people of Gujarat.
