Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a bilateral meeting with Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta at Gujarat’s Mahatma Mandir during the ongoing 10th Vibrant Gujarat Summit. The leaders warmly greeted each other, and PM Modi met with the accompanying delegation.
The historic visit marks the first Head of State level interaction between India and Timor-Leste, with Prime Minister Modi emphasizing the importance of the bilateral partnership. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra were present during the discussions.
Timor-Leste President, who arrived in Gujarat to attend the summit, was welcomed by Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. India established diplomatic ties with Timor-Leste in January 2003, reflecting the early and strong diplomatic relationship.
In a post, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the significance of the visit, stating, “President @JoseRamosHorta1 of Timor-Leste welcomed by CM @Bhupendrapbjp of Gujarat as he arrives in Ahmedabad for the 10th @VibrantGujarat Summit. This is the first Head of State level visit between the two countries, marking a significant milestone in bilateral partnership.”
Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in Ahmedabad on Monday for the summit, expressed joy over the participation of various world leaders. The theme of the summit, ‘Gateway to the Future,’ commemorates “20 Years of Vibrant Gujarat as the Summit of Success.”
The 10th edition of the summit, hosting 34 partner countries and 16 partner organizations, will showcase investment opportunities in the Northeastern regions of India. The Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show will feature state-of-the-art technology products, with a focus on sectors like E-mobility, Start-ups, MSMEs, Blue Economy, Green Energy, and Smart Infrastructure.
The summit will include seminars and conferences on globally relevant topics such as Industry 4.0, Technology and Innovation, Sustainable Manufacturing, Green Hydrogen, Electric Mobility, Renewable Energy, and Transition towards Sustainability. The event underscores the platform’s contribution to Gujarat’s growth and the creation of opportunities for various sectors.
