Raised issue of attacks on temples in Australia, PM Albanese assured strict action: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit to Australia, highlighted the subject of attacks on temples in the nation on Wednesday and claimed that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has promised to take “strict actions against such elements in the future.”

PM Modi stated at a joint talk with his Australian colleague Albanese, “PM Anthony Albanese and I have previously discussed the issue of attacks on temples in Australia and the activities of separatist elements.” We also talked about it today.

We shall not allow those elements that, via their actions or beliefs, undermine the cordial and warm connections between India and Australia. PM Albanese told me today that he will continue to take tough measures against such elements.

Notably, multiple examples of Khalistani fanaticism and brawls between Khalistani activists and pro-India protestors have lately surfaced in Australia. Recently, Indian flags were burned, and a Hindu temple was vandalized in Australia.

Previously, during his March visit to India, Albanese stated that Australia will not accept any extreme activities or attacks on religious buildings, adding that such action against Hindu temples has no place.

In response to a media question on the assurances given to his Indian counterpart by the Australian Prime Minister, Albanese stated, “I gave him the assurance that Australia is a country that respects people’s faith. That we don’t tolerate the sort of extreme actions and attacks that we have seen on religious buildings, be they attacks on temples, mosques, synagogues, or churches. This has no place in Australia.”

“And we will take every action through our police and also our security agencies to make sure that anyone responsible for this faces the full force of the law. We’re a tolerant multicultural nation, and there is no place in Australia for this activity,” he said as per the statement released.

Previously in March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in his address to India-Australia: Exchange of Agreements and Press Statements that the Australian PM had assured him that the safety and well-being of the Indian community in Australia is a priority for him in light of the recent instances of attacks on temples in Australia.

“Since the last few weeks, news of attacks on temples in Australia are coming regularly. It is natural that such news worries people in India. I have raised these concerns with Prime Minister Albanese who has assured me that the safety of the Indian community is a special priority for him,” Prime Minister Modi said.

Instances of Anti-Hindu Attacks on Temples in Australia

Pro-Khalistan activists vandalized the Shree Laxmi Narayan Temple in Brisbane, Australia, in March of this year. “This latest hate crime is a pattern of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) globally, clearly attempting to terrorize Australian Hindus,” said Sarah Gates, Director of Hindu Human Rights. In conjunction with a deluge of propaganda, unlawful signage, and cyberbullying, the organization plans to convey all-encompassing threats, terror, and intimidation,” according to The Australia Today.

The Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Carrum Downs, Australia, was vandalized with anti-Hindu graffiti on January 16. The Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Carrum Downs, Australia, was vandalized with anti-Hindu graffiti on January 16. On January 12, the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Australia’s Mill Park was defaced with anti-India and anti-Hindu graffiti.

The temple, located in the Mill Park neighborhood, was vandalized by anti-India extremists, with anti-India slogans inscribed on its walls, according to Australia Today.
