After ending his visit to Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Sydney for the third and last leg of his three-nation tour.
On his arrival in Sydney, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell and other authorities. PM Modi will meet with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, during his visit.
The leaders will discuss trade and investment, including efforts to boost bilateral trade through a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement and work to strengthen people-to-people links, renewable energy, and defence and security cooperation, according to an official statement released by the Australian government.
Members of the Indian diaspora also greeted PM Modi, chanting pro-India slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
Several people of Indian origin also clicked photographs of PM Modi and posed for selfies. An elderly lady, who was also waiting to see the PM, sang a song, “Suno Suno Ae Duniya Valo, Bharat Ne Bulaya Hai…..,” while the Prime Minister stopped in his tracks to hear the woman until she finished her song.
There were also some happy children eager to greet PM Modi at the location. They talked with the Prime Minister, who also offered them his approval.
Prime Minister Modi’s Australia Itinerary
In order to advance Australia’s expanding trade and investment partnership with India and seize chances from the Australia-India CEO Forum held in Mumbai in March, PM Modi will also meet with Australian business leaders, as per the statement.
“The Prime Minister will attend a community celebration of Australia’s vibrant and diverse Indian diaspora during his visit, a key component of our multicultural community, in Sydney during their visit,” the statement continued.
In the meantime, Australian Prime Minister Albanese expressed excitement about traveling to India in September in New Delhi for the G20 Leaders’ Summit, the foremost gathering for international economic cooperation.
Together with his counterpart James Marape, PM Modi, the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Papua New Guinea, hosted the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) today.
Prior to this, Prime Minister Modi traveled to Japan where he attended the G7 advanced economies conference and spoke privately with a number of international leaders. Alongside the G7 meeting in Hiroshima, the Quad meeting was also held.
