Delivering his speech from the historic Red Fort on the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a shift in the global order and the understanding of geopolitical dynamics. He emphasized that India has now assumed the role of representing the interests and perspectives of the countries in the global south.
“After the Second World War, a new world order took shape but I can see how clearly that a new global order and a new geopolitical equation moving ahead after the Covid; the definition of the geopolitical equation has changed. And my dear family members, your capability is visible in giving the world a new shape…” PM Modi said.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis, India’s efforts in global development underscored the nation’s capabilities. He elaborated that the pandemic disrupted supply chains and created pressure on developed nations. However, India adopted a people-centered strategy during this period, as mentioned by the Prime Minister. “Today India is becoming the voice of the global south. India’s prosperity and heritage have become an opportunity for the world,” he said.
In his 10th consecutive Independence Day speech, the prime minister said,” Global experts saying India will not stop now, all rating agencies are lauding country. The ball is in our court and we should not let go of the opportunity; no ifs and buts o anyone’s mind about India’s capabilities.”
“In shaping a changing world, Indian people’s capabilities are evident. India’s biggest capability is trust – people’s trust in government, in the country’s bright future, and the world’s trust in India,” he said.
He also praised the valuable contributions of the younger generation, highlighting that individuals from towns and cities categorized as tier 2 and tier 3 are making significant strides across various sectors, including the dynamic realm of start-ups.
The historic Red Fort was adorned with a vibrant tricolor, and an artful arrangement of flowers formed a G20 symbol on the ground.
During his arrival at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, and the heads of the three armed forces.
Following the prime minister’s hoisting of the national flag, the venue was graced by a shower of flower petals, a gesture orchestrated by two Advanced Light Helicopter Mark-III Dhruv aircraft from the Indian Air Force.
