PM Modi to Inaugurate State-of-the-Art Terminal at Tiruchirappalli International Airport During his South Visit

In his inaugural visit to the South since the BJP’s triumph in key heartland states, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is about to unveil the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

As anticipation builds with BJP banners lining the roads, meticulous arrangements have been made to ensure a resounding welcome for PM Modi upon his arrival in Trichy. Security measures have been significantly bolstered in the area in preparation for the visit.

The much-anticipated terminal, developed at a cost exceeding Rs 1100 crore, stands as a two-level international facility with the capacity to serve over 44 lakh passengers annually, accommodating 3,500 during peak hours. The Prime Minister’s Office has highlighted the terminal’s state-of-the-art amenities designed for passenger convenience.

Tiruchirappalli International Airport, currently the second-largest in international passenger traffic after Chennai in Tamil Nadu, is set to witness the inauguration of the new terminal. The facility boasts 60 check-in counters, 5 baggage carousels, 60 arrival immigration counters, and 44 departure emigration counters, according to the official release.

Inspired by the cultural vibrancy of Tiruchirappalli, the terminal’s design incorporates art forms such as Kolam art and the colors of Srirangam Temple. The external facade and interiors feature theme artworks symbolizing India’s connection to the world.

Rajavignesh, the creative director overseeing the terminal’s artworks, shared insights into the meticulous process, involving 100 artists who completed the paintings and installations within a span of 30 days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tour is not limited to Tamil Nadu, as he is scheduled to visit Lakshadweep and Kerala over the next two days, on January 2 and 3. The inauguration of the new terminal at Tiruchirappalli International Airport signifies a significant milestone in the region’s aviation infrastructure development.
