PM Narendra Modi to visit Greece and South Africa

In response to President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa’s invitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 22 to 24, when he will attend the 15th BRICS Summit. Following his tour to South Africa, he will accept his Greek colleague Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ invitation to make an official visit to Greece.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed in a press release that PM Modi will take part in a special event called “BRICS – Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue” being arranged following the BRICS Summit, which will involve other countries invited by South Africa. Additionally, he will meet alone with a few of the world leaders that are in Johannesburg.

In a press statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated: “This will be the first in-person BRICS Summit since 2019. The summit will offer a chance to assess the status of the group’s projects and identify potential new areas of focus.
The 15th BRICS Summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 22–24. Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa are among the five countries that make up the alliance. On January 1, South Africa took over as the organization’s chairman. The topic of the presidency was “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth Sustainable Development and Inclusive Multilateralism.”

On August 25, PM Modi will leave for South Africa and then head to Greece. He will meet with his Greek colleague, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his visit to discuss measures to further strengthen the connections between the two countries. He will converse with business executives from both nations. Additionally, he will interact with the Greek Indian community.

“Following his visit to South Africa, Prime Minister will pay an official visit to Greece on 25 August 2023 at the invitation of H.E. Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis, PM of Greece. This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Greece in 40 years,” MEA said in a press release.
