Tiruchirappalli, January 2, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded a transformative push for ‘Sabka Vikas’ south of the Vindhyas by inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for a bouquet of development projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore in Tiruchirappalli on Tuesday.

Following a convocation event at Bharathidasan University, PM Modi was honored by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin at a public gathering in the city. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia commended PM Modi’s leadership, highlighting the democratization of civil aviation under his watch, turning airports into centers of growth and employment.

PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Trichy airport, developed at a cost exceeding Rs 1100 crore. The state-of-the-art two-level international terminal has a capacity to serve over 44 lakh passengers annually and about 3,500 during peak hours. The new facility boasts amenities focused on passenger convenience.

Tiruchirappalli International Airport, the second-largest in terms of international passenger traffic after Chennai in Tamil Nadu, witnessed the inauguration of a terminal housing 60 check-in counters, 5 baggage carousels, and advanced immigration and emigration counters.

Prime Minister Modi also dedicated multiple railway projects, including the doubling of key rail sections and electrification projects. These initiatives aim to enhance rail capacity for freight and passengers, contributing to economic development and employment generation in Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, PM Modi dedicated five road projects, facilitating safe and faster travel, improving connectivity to industrial and commercial centers, and benefiting regions like Trichy, Srirangam, Chidambaram, Rameshwaram, and others.

Foundation stones were laid for crucial road development projects, including a 31-kilometer four-lane road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam, connecting ports on the East Coast of Tamil Nadu and enhancing connectivity to Mamallapuram and the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Plant.

Other inaugurated projects include the General Cargo Berth-II at Kamarajar Port, contributing to trade strength, and several petroleum and natural gas projects, addressing energy needs and fostering employment.

PM Modi also inaugurated the 500-bed Boys’ Hostel ‘AMETHYST’ at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Tiruchirappalli, supporting educational infrastructure.
