On Wednesday, the Prime Minister arrived in Washington from New York and, accompanied by the US First Lady Jill Biden, visited the National Science Foundation in Virginia. During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his government’s aspiration of empowering young entrepreneurs and making this decade a “tech decade” as he shared his government’s initiatives.
As part of this mission, the Prime Minister highlighted the “Start-Up India” program launched to encourage and support young entrepreneurs. “Our goal is to make this decade a tech decade – Techade,” PM Modi stated.
During his visit, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a talent pipeline to maintain growth momentum in India and the United States. He highlighted the advanced technologies and top-class educational institutions available in the US while noting India’s position as the world’s giant youth factory. The Prime Minister suggested that the India-US partnership fuel sustainable and inclusive global growth.
Under the Skill India campaign, the Prime Minister mentioned that over 50 million individuals had been trained in artificial intelligence, blockchain and drone technology.
The First Lady, Jill Biden, acknowledged the deep and expansive partnership between the US and India, which brings together the world’s oldest and largest democracies. She also mentioned that while the relationship between the two countries extends beyond governments, it celebrates families and friendships.
In addition to the discussions, the Prime Minister hinted at the possibility of an India-US teachers’ exchange program and organizing hackathons on various issues.
During her remarks, Jill Biden highlighted the importance of investing in the younger generation, stating that they are the future and that their success is essential for strong economies. She emphasized that providing these individuals with the opportunities they deserve is crucial.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi engaged with the Indian community upon his arrival in Washington. He led a special yoga session in New York that set a new record at the UN headquarters. The Prime Minister’s visit to the US marks his first state visit, during which he will participate in a state dinner and meet with several industry leaders.
