PM Modi virtually inaugurates Agra Metro

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Agra Metro virtually from Kolkata on Wednesday. According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Agra Metro has set a historical precedent by commencing operations almost nine months ahead of schedule. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the Agra Metro from the Taj Mahal Metro Station on this momentous occasion.

The Agra Metro marks the sixth metro system in Uttar Pradesh. Remarkably, the construction of the primary underground section was completed in just 23 months, surpassing the initial estimation of 32 months. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Agra Metro on December 7, 2020.

In its first phase, the metro will cover a distance of up to 6 kilometers, encompassing six stations in the priority corridor. The general public will be able to avail themselves of the Metro services starting from Thursday. AI surveillance will be conducted within the metro stations.

Notably, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself embarked on a journey in the Agra Metro, traveling from the Taj Mahal station to the Taj East station, accompanied by public representatives. In the visitor book, the Chief Minister commended the timely completion and quality of the project, extending his best wishes.

CM Yogi highlighted that the work on the Agra Metro commenced in December 2021, and within two years, the first 6 km of the Priority Section was completed, including three elevated and three underground metro stations.

He expressed pride in Uttar Pradesh becoming the first state in the country to provide metro services in most of its cities, including Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Kanpur, and now Agra.

CM Yogi also praised the Uttar Pradesh Metro Corporation’s dedication to the Kanpur Metro, Lucknow Metro, and Agra Metro projects, emphasizing their commendable efficiency in executing PM Modi’s vision for the state’s development.

Furthermore, he acknowledged Agra’s historical significance and expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for selecting Agra for the metro project. He assured that the government is actively pursuing various development projects in Agra, such as the airport expansion and ensuring Ganga water supply for drinking purposes.

The Chief Minister extended congratulations to the residents of Agra for this pre-Holi gift and thanked all public representatives for their cooperation in completing the projects on time. He expressed confidence that future metro projects in Agra will also be completed promptly with continued support.

Following the Prime Minister’s signal, the metro commenced its journey, with thirty-two students from Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 selected to travel in the metro train from the Taj Mahal station to Taj East. Union Minister of State Kaushal Kishore, Union Minister of State Prof. SP Singh Baghel, local MPs, MLAs, and other public representatives were present to witness this historic event.
