Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Wednesday. The two leaders proceeded for delegation-level talks on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-travel Sisi’s to India is being hailed “historic,” since he is visiting for the first time as a major guest to attend the Republic Day Parade on January 26. Several other Union Ministers received El-Sisi, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena.
The Egyptian President thanked Indians on their 74th Republic Day, calling it a “great priviledge” to be the chief guest on such a glorious national day.
“I reiterate my congratulations to the Indian nation, government and people for this great day. It is a great privilege to be a guest of honour and participate in the glorious national day,” Egyptian President Sisi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.
“The relations between Egypt and India have been characterised by balance and stability. We have only seen constructive development. We have been all along evolving very positively,” he said further.
The Egyptian President also expressed his desire to take the bilateral relations between the two countries to a new horizon.
“I expect through this visit that we take our bilateral level to a whole new horizon, where we can reach the relationship and partnership between the two countries at all levels. I look with great esteem to the sustainable development experience of India,” he said.
El-Sisi was also welcomed by several other Union Ministers including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena among others.
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi on Tuesday said, “Warm welcome to India, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Your historic visit to India as Chief Guest for our Republic Day celebrations is a matter of immense happiness for all Indians. Look forward to our discussions tomorrow.”
Notably, this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishing of diplomatic ties between India and Egypt. Egypt has also been asked to be a “guest country” during India’s G20 presidency.
Before departing for India, the Egyptian Presidency’s Spokesman claimed that the invitation President El-Sisi got to attend the celebrations as a guest of honour shows the two nations’ convergence, according to a statement posted by the Egyptian President’s website.
