Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction at the historic achievement of Khadi sales worth Rs 1.52 crore at ‘Khadi Bhawan’ in Connaught Place, Delhi. He noted that this widespread purchase of hand-woven cloth across the nation underscores its transformation into a symbol of public sentiment.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister remarked, “The new record of Khadi purchases by our fellow citizens across the country demonstrates its remarkable resonance as a symbol of public sentiment. I am confident that this love for Khadi will continue to set new records each day, further reinforcing the vision of a self-reliant India.”
This milestone was reached following Prime Minister Modi’s call to the public to purchase Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti, which he made during his “Mann Ki Baat” program on September 24. Consequently, Khadi Bhawan witnessed an unprecedented single-day sale of Rs 1.52 crore.
Khadi India, in a social media post, acknowledged, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the torchbearer of Khadi and the visionary behind the ‘Modern Khadi of New India,’ had appealed to the people to buy Khadi on ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on 24th September. As a result, for the first time in the history of Khadi, a record sale of Rs 1.52 crore was achieved in a single day at ‘Khadi Bhawan’ in Connaught Place, Delhi.”
According to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, “The people of Delhi have set a new record in the purchase of Khadi and Village Industries products on the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
On Gandhi Jayanti, the flagship Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place witnessed the highest-ever sales of Khadi and Village Industries products, totalling Rs 1,52,45,000, according to the official statement.
Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), attributed the phenomenal sales of Gandhi ji’s legacy Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti to the “Brand Power” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his immense popularity among the masses.
Comparing the sales figures, it was noted that while the sale on Gandhi Jayanti in the previous fiscal year (2022-23) at Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place was Rs 1,33,95,000, it had risen to Rs 1,52,45,000 this year.
As the first customer on Gandhi Jayanti, KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar made a symbolic purchase of Khadi clothing at Khadi Bhawan, Connaught Place, making a digital payment through UPI. The Chairman highlighted that PM Modi had repeatedly encouraged the purchase of Khadi products on national and international platforms.
Underlining the success of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Vocal for Local,’ the Prime Minister emphasized how these initiatives had driven Khadi and Village Industries product sales to surpass Rs 1.34 lakh crore in the last nine years.
At the G-20 Summit, PM Modi showcased Khadi by welcoming world leaders with Khadi attire and encouraged citizens to buy Khadi products. This led to a significant surge in Khadi sales at Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi, on Gandhi Jayanti.
Analyzing the sales figures for the past three years on Gandhi Jayanti, it is evident that each year’s sales exceeded Rs 1 crore. However, this year, the sales figure soared to Rs 1.52 crore, marking a remarkable milestone.
These figures underscore that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, ‘Khadi of India’ has emerged as a pivotal component of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ in the country.
