PM Narendra Modi Reviews Kuwait Fire Incident; MEA Team to Visit Tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting on Wednesday evening with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and other concerned authorities to assess the tragic fire incident in Kuwait, which claimed the lives of over 40 individuals and left more than 30 Indian workers injured.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, informed ANI that the MEA team will depart for Kuwait on Thursday morning to evaluate the situation and provide assistance to those currently hospitalized.

“We stand with the victims of the Kuwait fire incident, and we express our sympathy to them. We had a meeting with PM Modi, and tomorrow morning we are travelling to Kuwait. We will take stock of the situation and the condition of those admitted to the hospital,” said MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh.

During the meeting chaired by PM Modi, the focus was on ongoing efforts to identify the casualties and ensure proper care for the injured.

“We have received reports that the injured are being well taken care of. The process of identifying those who lost their lives is ongoing,” added Singh.

He further highlighted that a majority of the affected individuals hail from Kerala and other parts of South India, emphasizing the ongoing identification process.

“The majority of the affected individuals are from Kerala and other parts of South India, and the identification process is ongoing. We will remain there as long as our assistance is needed,” Singh affirmed.

The fire broke out early Wednesday in a building housing workers in Mangaf, southern Kuwait.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the incident, extending his condolences to the families of the victims. He assured that the Indian Embassy in Kuwait is actively coordinating with local authorities to provide necessary support.

Additionally, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaika, visited Al-Adan Hospital to oversee the treatment of over 30 Indian workers injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad al-Yousuf al-Sabah visited the site and ordered the arrest of the building’s owner, as reported by Al Jazeera. (ANI)
