Police Cracks Bank Heist In Punjab, Arrests Three Through Manhunt

In a breakthrough, the Punjab police have reportedly cracked the Saturday bank dacoity at the ICICI Bank branch located on the Tarn Taran road in Amritsar. According to a statement made by an official on Monday, the police solved the bank heist and arrested three through a manhunt across Punjab and Haryana.

The police stated that an amount of Rs 7.70 lakh was recovered from the three suspects, identified as Suraj (22) and Inderjit Singh, also known as Sajjan (19), from Bhai Manjh Road in Sultanwind, and Prince, also known as Shera (32), from Gobind Nagar on Sultanwind Road.

The Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav stated that the accused were arrested with the stolen cash and two pistols were recovered from them. “In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has solved the gunpoint bank heist within hours with a manhunt across Punjab and Haryana. All three accused have been arrested with looted cash and the recovery of two pistols (0.30 bore pistol and dummy pistol),” the DGP posted on his social media platform X. He also further posted that police also recovered six pistols following the operation.

The official further asserted that the Punjab Police was entirely committed to maintaining security and that strict action was going to be taken against those involved in the crime.

Following the arrest, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Police Commissioner (CP), addressed the media on April 8 and said that a case was registered against suspects under Sections 392, 506 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act. He also stated that the accused had looted Rs 12.78 lakh from the cashier of the bank at gunpoint.

“We identified robbers within hours of the incident and a manhunt was launched to arrest them. The police teams worked tirelessly on clues throughout night to nab them within 24 hours of the incident,” the CP said.

Previously, Punjab police had announced the prevention of planned target killings, last month, by apprehending four operatives following an exchange of gunfire.
