Police Raids on 70 Spa Centers in Dehradun; Legal Actions Taken Against Many

In a large-scale operation, police teams in Dehradun, following the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police, carried out raids on 70 different spa centers. These raids took place simultaneously, aiming to uncover any illegal activities or violations of regulations within the establishments.

CCTV Footage and Employee Records Examined

During the raids, police closely examined the CCTV camera footage at the spa centers. They also inspected the maintenance registers that track customer visits and questioned the spa staff to verify their credentials and legal status.

26 Spa Centers Penalized Under Section 83 of Police Act

As a result of the investigation, 26 spa centers were penalized under Section 83 of the Police Act for various violations. Legal action has been initiated against these establishments, marking a significant step in the city’s efforts to regulate spa services and ensure lawful operations.

A major police operation in Dehradun has exposed the rampant illegal activities, including prostitution, being conducted in various spa centers across the city. Following numerous complaints, the police set up a sting operation and conducted simultaneous raids on 70 spa centers on Sunday night. One spa center was caught engaging in prostitution, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including a woman, while five victims were rescued from the premises.

Raids Reveal Multiple Violations

According to the police, 26 out of the 70 spa centers inspected were found to have serious irregularities. These centers were fined under the Police Act, with authorities issuing warnings to others found in violation of the rules. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh stated, “We raided 70 spa centers on Sunday and checked their documents and compliance with previous directives. During the raids, we examined CCTV footage, customer records, and employee verification details.”

In total, 29 fines were issued under the Police Act, resulting in penalties exceeding Rs 10,000. Moreover, 26 spa centers were booked for violations, further strengthening the crackdown on such illicit practices in the city.

Line Wood Spa Center Busted in Patel Nagar

Among the centers raided was the Line Wood Spa Center near the Patel Nagar Mandi area. Police found three men and three women in compromising positions during the raid. Following the discovery, a case was registered against four individuals, including the spa operator, under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Five victims were also rescued from the location.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shobha Rani, a resident of Kanwali Road; Vijay Kumar Gurung from Clement Town; Mohammad Shadab from Gandevada, Saharanpur; and Mohammad Amjad from Chutmalpur, Saharanpur. All the accused are expected to be presented before the court on Monday.

A Warning for Spa Centers

The police’s large-scale operation highlights their efforts to clean up the city’s spa industry, which has increasingly become a front for illegal activities. The simultaneous raids and fines imposed send a strong message to spa operators engaging in unlawful practices. Some spa centers received warnings for minor infractions, with the police emphasizing that more stringent action would follow if they did not comply with the law in the future.

Dehradun’s police department has reaffirmed its commitment to curbing illegal activities in the city’s spa centers. The raids mark the beginning of what could be an ongoing investigation into the misuse of these establishments. Authorities also called for stricter surveillance and regular inspections to ensure spa centers remain compliant with the law.
