As the national capital battles bitter cold and early-morning fog, the Armed Forces displayed precision and dedication during the dress rehearsals for the upcoming 75th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path on Thursday. French President Emmanuel Macron is slated to be the chief guest at the event, marking the 6th occasion of a French leader gracing the Republic Day celebrations.
In a historic move, the Border Security Force (BSF) will feature all-women marching and brass band contingents during this year’s Republic Day parade. Led by an Assistant Commandant rank woman officer and two subordinate officers, a total of 144 women BSF constables will march down Kartavya Path on January 26. The inclusion of the all-women contingent symbolizes a significant step towards gender inclusivity in the armed forces.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally extended an invitation to President Macron, expressing eagerness for him to be the Chief Guest at the 75th Republic Day function. PM Modi, in a tweet from his official handle, highlighted the celebration of the India-France strategic partnership and shared belief in democratic values.
In another noteworthy development, a total of 2,274 cadets from all 28 states and eight Union Territories will participate in the month-long National Cadet Corps (NCC) Republic Day Camp 2024. This year’s camp boasts the largest participation of girl cadets, with 907 girls taking part. The camp, which commenced at the Cariappa Parade Ground, Delhi Cantt, on December 30, 2023, aims to celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and unity.
The participation includes 122 cadets from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, along with 171 from the North-Eastern Region, presenting a microcosm of ‘Mini India.’ The NCC Republic Day Camp 2024 emphasizes the spirit of national integration and reflects the rich cultural tapestry of the country.
As the nation prepares to celebrate its 75th Republic Day, the combination of traditional military grandeur, historic firsts, and diverse representation promises to make the event a memorable and symbolically significant occasion.
