President Murmu: Serbia emerging as new destination for Indian filmmakers

President Murmu lauded Serbia in her two-nation visit. According to President Murmu, Serbia has emerged as a new film destination for Indian filmmakers.

Droupadi Murmu stated that she had heard that Serbians like watching Indian films when speaking to the Indian diaspora in Belgrade. “I’ve heard that Serbians enjoy watching Indian films, and Serbia has recently been a favourite filming location for Indian directors. Many Serbians also feel a strong connection to India’s spiritual tradition, which includes yoga. I’ve also been told that Ayurveda is accepted in this country as a technique of treatment and cure,” she stated.

She further added that India and Serbia have always shared an understanding of each other’s core interests. She was looking forward to meeting the minister of Serbia and other government representatives.

The Indian Ambassador to Serbia, Sanjay Kohli, hosted a community reception in Belgrade where the President spoke with members of the diaspora and friends of India. The President addressed the crowd and talked about the relationship between India and Serbia.

She added that based on this bilateral foundation, she would look forward to interacting with the Serbian leadership during her visit. The President emphasized the importance of their commitment to building friendship and understanding between Serbia and India while expressing her gratitude to the Indian community in Serbia.

President Murmu said Serbia has been a valued partner in India’s sustainable development cooperation initiatives. “Each of these aspects reflects our quest towards becoming a leading power,” she added.

Murmu marks the first such visit by an Indian head of state to Serbia. At the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, she was welcomed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and given a guard of respect as a special gesture.
