In a significant move towards bolstering infrastructure and promoting self-reliance in key sectors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to spearhead the inauguration, dedication, and foundation laying of a plethora of developmental projects across Jharkhand and West Bengal. Scheduled for Friday, this initiative encompasses a wide array of sectors including fertilisers, railways, power, coal, oil pipeline, ports, and wastewater treatment, reflecting a comprehensive approach towards national development.
Revitalising the Fertiliser Sector in Jharkhand
The Prime Minister’s visit will kick off in Sindri, Jharkhand, with a public programme celebrating the inauguration of the Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Ltd (HURL) Sindri Fertiliser Plant. This plant, erected at a cost exceeding Rs 8,900 crore, marks a significant leap towards achieving self-sufficiency in urea production, promising to bolster indigenous urea production by approximately 12.7 LMT per annum. This initiative is particularly poised to benefit the farming community nationwide and follows the successful revival of fertiliser plants in Gorakhpur and Ramagundam, underlining the government’s commitment to revitalising India’s agricultural backbone.
Railway and Power Sector Boosts
In addition to fertiliser sector developments, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for railway projects worth over Rs 17,600 crore in Jharkhand. These projects, including the introduction of new rail lines and the enhancement of existing ones, aim at expanding rail services and fostering socio-economic development across the state. Furthermore, the dedication of Unit 1 (660 MW) of the North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project, at a development cost of more than Rs 7,500 crore, underscores the government’s focus on enhancing the power infrastructure to ensure an improved and reliable power supply.
Strategic Developments in West Bengal
The development agenda continues in West Bengal, where the Prime Minister will inaugurate and dedicate projects exceeding Rs 7,200 crore in value. Among these, the 518-km Haldia-Barauni Crude Oil Pipeline stands out as a testament to the government’s efforts in ensuring a safe, cost-efficient, and eco-friendly crude oil supply chain across Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. The strengthening of infrastructure at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, including the installation of cutting-edge firefighting systems and the addition of new Rail Mounted Quay Cranes, is set to significantly boost the port’s cargo handling capabilities.
Promoting Health and Hygiene through Wastewater Management
In a bid to enhance urban infrastructure and environmental health, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate projects focused on wastewater treatment and sewerage in West Bengal, funded by the World Bank. These projects aim to improve sewage treatment capacities and networks in Howrah, Bally, Kamarhati, and Baranagar, providing a substantial push towards cleaner and healthier urban living conditions.
A Forward-Looking Agenda
Prime Minister Modi’s two-day visit to Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Bihar is a clear indicator of the government’s forward-looking agenda aimed at infrastructural development and sectoral self-reliance. By touching upon crucial sectors such as agriculture, railways, power, oil, and environmental management, this initiative not only promises to enhance the quality of life for millions of Indians but also sets a robust foundation for the country’s sustained economic growth and development.
