It is expected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Kiev on August 24, which is Ukraine’s National Day. This will be his first visit to the nation since the conflict with Russia began in 2022.
According to reports, Modi may visit Ukraine, where he will likely meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky in the midst of increased international attempts to maintain peace in the area. According to PTI, which cited diplomatic sources, there will be extensive logistical planning required for the visit.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of the visit from either the Indian or Ukrainian governments.
Modi and Zelensky last met on June 14 on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy. According to a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders held a productive meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties and discussing the situation in Ukraine. They also exchanged views on the upcoming Summit on Peace to be hosted by Switzerland.
Following their meeting, Modi emphasized India’s support for a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, reiterating New Delhi’s commitment to facilitating a peaceful solution.
Modi and Zelensky had previously met during last year’s G7 Summit in Japan.
Modi’s potential travel to Ukraine would come after his recent two-day visit to Russia, which began on July 8. Modi met informally with Russian President Vladimir Putin during this visit at Putin’s country home in Novo-Ogaryovo, a gesture reserved for special guests. Following their conversation, Modi thanked Putin in a tweet on X (the former name for Twitter).
