Punjab Military Station firing: Terror angle unlikely, say police sources

According to Punjab Police, there was no terror component to the Wednesday morning shooting incident at Bathinda Military Station, which killed at least four people. All entry gates to the Army Cantonment in Bathinda, according to sources, have been closed.

According to them, one Insas rifle with 28 cartridges went missing about two days ago, and some Army personnel may be responsible for this incident. According to a statement issued by the Indian Army’s South Western Command, the shooting occurred at around 4.35 a.m. inside the Bathinda Military Station.

A search operation is underway, the Army said “Four casualties were reported in the incident. The Station Quick Reaction Teams were activated and the area was cordoned off and sealed. Search operation in progress”, informed the HQ SW Command.

Further details on the incident are awaited.
