The Punjab State Election Commission has revealed the dates for the upcoming Panchayat Elections, which will take place on October 15. Raj Kamal Chaudhuri, the State Election Commissioner, confirmed that the Model Code of Conduct is now in force in all affected panchayats.
Important Dates
Several key dates have been established for the election process:
- Nomination Filing: Candidates can start submitting their nominations on September 27.
- Withdrawal of Nominations: Candidates have until October 7 to withdraw.
- Polling Time: Voting is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on October 15, using ballot boxes.
Votes will be counted on the same day right after the polling ends.
Voter Information
The elections will feature around 1,33,97,922 registered voters, including 70,51,722 males and 63,46,008 females. The elections will elect 13,237 Sarpanches and 83,437 Panches, highlighting significant grassroots participation.

Expenditure Limits for Candidates
To ensure fairness, the Commission has set spending limits:
- Sarpanch Candidates: Up to ₹40,000.
- Panch Candidates: Up to ₹30,000.
These limits aim to create a level playing field and reduce the influence of money in the elections.
Security Measures
To ensure a smooth electoral process, about 96,000 personnel will be on duty. Additionally, 23 senior IAS and PCS officers will serve as General Observers in various districts, overseeing activities at 19,110 polling booths.
The Commission is dedicated to conducting the elections in a fair and transparent manner, fostering trust in the electoral system.
