In an effort to dismantle the gangster-terrorist network operating in Punjab, the state police initiated a comprehensive crackdown, conducting raids at over 1159 suspected locations and hideouts of associates linked to various gangsters.
According to police officials, one individual was arrested, and 30 were detained for further interrogation during the operation. The coordinated raids took place between 7 am and 2 pm, following the directives of Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav. The raids encompassed the residences and premises of associates, relatives, and acquaintances connected to various gangsters across all 28 police districts in the state.
Special DGP Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, revealed that all Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Superintendents of Police (SSPs) received instructions to deploy sufficient police teams to conduct these raids diligently. The operation aimed to disrupt the nexus between terrorists, gangsters, and drug smugglers with links both in India and abroad.
During the operation, police teams were authorized to detain individuals considered suspicious. Approximately 625 police teams, comprising over 2500 personnel, participated in the operation, investigating 1159 locations associated with gangster associates.
Special DGP Shukla reported that during the operation, one arrest was made, and law enforcement recovered 120 grams of heroin and a 32-bore pistol with five live cartridges. Additionally, several individuals were apprehended for questioning, and incriminating evidence was seized from their possession. The gathered material and data are under further examination.
The crackdown follows the interrogation of individuals arrested in recently dismantled modules affiliated with different gangsters.
