Punjab: Police Launch Cordon, Search Operations Ahead Of Independence Day

The Punjab Police continued their special cordon and search operations to ensure peaceful celebrations of the forthcoming Independence Day by carrying out searches at all the bus stands across the state on Tuesday.

The CASO, conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, was carried out from 1 pm to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts, under which police teams, with the assistance of sniffer dogs, frisked people arriving and departing at bus stands.

Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who was personally monitoring this state-level operation, said that all the Commissioner of Police/Senior Superintendent of Police (CPs/SSPs) were asked to ensure proper cordon-off and thorough search of all the bus stands in their respective districts amidst the maximum number of police teams under the supervision of SP rank officers to make this operation successful.
Apart from this, CPs/SSPs were also asked to carry out checking of all the vehicles parked around the bus stands by using the Vahan app.

“We had strictly instructed all the police personnel to deal with every person in a friendly and polite manner while frisking them during the course of this operation,” he added.

He said that as many as 393 patrolling parties, involving 2500 police personnel, were deputed across the state to look for suspicious persons at different bus stands in the state while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the general public. Around 2493 people were checked during the operation conducted at around 195 bus stands in the state, he said, while adding that police teams have rounded up four persons for questioning.

As many as 3174 vehicles stationed at different parking lots around bus stands were also checked, during which police teams also issued 205 challans and impounded 11 vehicles.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla reiterated that such operations would continue to ensure peace and harmony in the border state.
