As part of the ongoing special drives against miscreants launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann ahead of the forthcoming Independence Day 2024, Punjab Police conducted a special cordon and search operation (CASO) at and around all the railway stations across the state on Friday.
The operation was conducted under the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, from 10 am to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts. Police teams, with the assistance of sniffer dogs, frisked people arriving and departing at railway stations.
Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, who was personally monitoring this state-level operation, said that all the CPs/SSPs were instructed to deploy at least two police teams per railway station under the supervision of an SP-rank officer to carry out this operation. “We had strictly instructed all the police personnel to deal with every person in a friendly and polite manner while frisking them during the course of this operation,” he added.
Around 250 police parties, involving over 2,000 police personnel, were deputed across the state to look for suspicious persons at different railway stations while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the public.
Over 1,778 persons were checked during the operation at 170 railway stations in the state. Additionally, 31 suspicious persons were detained for questioning.
CPs/SSPs were also tasked with checking all parked vehicles around the railway stations, especially those parked for over three days, using the Vahan app.
The Special DGP reported that police teams checked 1,851 vehicles stationed at different parking lots around railway stations, of which 628 vehicles were found to be parked for over three days.
