Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C has revealed crucial information regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. As of March 1, 2024, Punjab boasts a total of 2,12,71,246 voters, comprising 1,19,29,959 male voters, 1,07,75,543 female voters, and 744 transgender voters distributed across its 13 Lok Sabha seats.
In preparation for the elections, a comprehensive network of 24,433 polling stations has been established to facilitate the voting process across the state. Each Lok Sabha constituency has been meticulously organized, with specific details provided for major seats:
– Gurdaspur Lok Sabha Seat: 1895 polling stations, 15,95,300 voters
– Amritsar Lok Sabha Seat: 1676 polling stations, 15,93,846 voters
– Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha Seat: 1974 polling stations, 16,55,468 voters
– Jalandhar (SC) Lok Sabha Seat: 1951 polling stations, 16,41,872 voters
– Hoshiarpur (SC) Lok Sabha Seat: 1963 polling stations, 15,93,018 voters
– Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha Seat: 2066 polling stations, 17,11,255 voters
– Ludhiana Lok Sabha Seat: 1842 polling stations, 17,28,619 voters
– Fatehgarh Sahib (SC) Lok Sabha Seat: 1820 polling stations, 15,39,155 voters
– Faridkot (SC) Lok Sabha Seat: 1688 polling stations, 15,78,937 voters
– Firozpur Lok Sabha Seat: 1902 polling stations, 16,57,131 voters
– Bathinda Lok Sabha Seat: 1814 polling stations, 16,38,881 voters
– Sangrur Lok Sabha Seat: 1765 polling stations, 15,50,017 voters
– Patiala Lok Sabha Seat: 2077 polling stations, 17,87,747 voters
Out of these seats, four are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, reflecting the state’s diverse electoral landscape.
In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Congress-led UPA alliance secured 8 seats, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) managed to clinch four. Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contesting for the first time in Punjab, won one seat, adding further intrigue to the upcoming polls.
With the Lok Sabha elections slated for April and May this year, Punjab gears up for a democratic exercise of considerable magnitude, with a diverse electorate poised to shape the state’s political trajectory.
